Kasen & Carson

September 27, 2010

They had a BLAST playing together.  And like any good friends, after fun and a few spats, they still hugged each other and were sad to end the time together. I thought it was so sweet that Kasen leaned inside the car and said to Carson, “I really, really, really, really love you and I’ll miss you.”  Precious.

Here they are playing chase.  If you’re wondering why they have their pajamas on, it’s because it was Pajama Day for Carson at school.  Kasen thought that was super cool, so she had to join in and put her pajamas on as well.  Not sure why she had to put thick cotton tights on as well as her Crocs, but I’m not judging. LOL  Just look at Holden too – still trying to get in with the cool kids. ;)

Guess what I got?

I got an Amy & Angie’s favorite at I Heart Faces for this pic. It was for the photo contest with the theme “Smirk!”  :D

I Heart Faces Photo Contest

September 26, 2010

I had so much fun entering last week’s photo contest at I Heart Faces, I thought I would enter again this week.  This week’s theme is “Chalk.”  I had just taken some pics of my children at the beginning of this month and I knew there had to be one in there that was a good fit for this theme.  I even had a great plan for a picture, but it poured down rain and I couldn’t bring my idea to fruition.  Oh well.  So, after much deliberating, this is the one I chose.  Here I am featuring my little man again, but he is just SO expressive and really funny.  He did try every single color of chalk even though he hated it and made horrendous faces every single time. LOL  I guess he thought the next color just had to taste better than the last. ;)

She’s all that and a bag of chips.  Whew, this girl keeps me totally hopping.  Holden wears me out physically and she wears me out mentally.  Actually, they BOTH wear me out physically and mentally, but each one is a little stronger in opposing categories. ;)

Kasen started a new school today, which she loved.  I did too.  It helped that the first thing she saw was an indoor slide.  She excitedly exclaimed, “Mom, there’s a slide IN-SIIIIDE!!  Isn’t that cooooool???”  Add that to the fact that there were also birds and a fish tank and she was ready to set up house and allow us to come visit her on holidays. ;)  She’ll go there one day a week, and she still goes to her Mother’s Day Out program two days a week at a different location.  When I picked her up today, I was asking her about all the fun stuff she did, asking her if she made any new friends, talking about her cool art project, but what she was most thrilled about was the Tootsie Roll that her teacher had just given her.  Forget learning and social interaction, TOOTSIE ROLL trumps all.  Didn’t you know?! LOL

We also had a play date with one of Kasen’s very best friends today (pics of that to come later, even though I didn’t get many).  They were so cute together, playing pretend-sleep, making music, and of course, the ultimate in play dates –  playing dress-up.  There was an issue with the coveted princess shoes, but they sorted that out so diplomatically.  Carson gave the shoes to Kasen and Kasen hugged Carson for being so kind (aka Kasen getting her way). ;)  There was a steady stream of princesses, jazz girls and race car drivers making their rounds throughout the house.  Holden tried to join in on the fun but was consistently denied. LOL  Carson’s Mom, Lisa said she felt so bad for him.  Didn’t keep him from trying though every.single.time.  Girls run toward bedroom, Holden following, girls shut door, Holden stands and looks at door, Lisa says “De-Nied.”  This happened over and over and over, but Holden was a trooper and would walk back in the living room and continue to play.  Must be hard being the littlest.

Kasen also started gymnastics this week as well – just trying to expend all of that energy swirling around in that tiny body of hers.  With all these things going on, we take one step forward and two steps back, or make that three or four or five.  LOL  Suffice it to say, this week has had many ups and many downs.  It will be interesting to see what next week brings.  I’d like to say “Bring It On” but I’m old and tired and right now, all I can say is “Please don’t hurt me!” LOL

Like I said in the title . . . . . sassy, spunky, spirited, AND one gorgeous little soul whom I love with all my heart and would do anything for.  Our beautiful sunshine. :)

I Heart Faces Photo Contest

September 20, 2010

Wellllll . . . . . I haven’t entered an I Heart Faces Photo Contest in foreverrrrrr!  It’s been a challenging year that’s for sure, but we know the light is at the end of the tunnel . . . . somewhere. LOL

The theme for this week’s contest is “Smirk” and I immediately knew which picture I wanted to enter.  I was talking to my Mom on the telephone and he wanted to say “Hi.” He does great saying his hellos, but then he starts pushing buttons and eventually hanging up on her – doesn’t make for a great two way conversation. :)  I had to finally tell her my goodbyes because he was SO upset.  We were sitting on the floor, he was scu-reammmmiinnggg, so I did what anyone would do to get him to be quiet . . I handed him the telephone.  He gently held it up to his ear and started talking while tears still filled his eyes and streamed down his cheeks. He would alternate between talking and pushing buttons.  I had my camera on the table, so I reached up, grabbed it, and started snapping pictures when he turned to me and gave me the biggest smirk I’ve ever seen.  I can just hearing him saying “Yep, I got what I wanted.” LOL  Little stinker.  It’s a good thing he’s cute. ;)

Summertime.  It’s still here, still hot and I’m still waiting for the fall weather that people in different parts of the world are talking about.  They speak of wearing chunky warm sweatshirts, loving the feel of the crisp air while watching football games and how it’s finally “soup weather.”  Ahhhhh, how I’m ready for that.  However; since it is what it is here in Texas, I’ll just embrace our warm summer days.  Popsicles, swimming, playing in the rain, flowing summer dresses, chunky toddler sandals showing a peak of pudgy toes, and trips to the park are all remarkable summer loves.

Another summer love is our new Zoku quick pop maker.  Totally cool.  It makes popsicles in about 7-8 minutes which is of the utmost importance when you have a squirmy, very impatient five year old.  Here’s Kasen enjoying the wait and then the final product – orange-strawberry-banana quick pops.  Yummo! :D

Kasen’s Auntie Gayle and Uncle Brian gave her the neatest gift – Twinkle Tiaras.  It comes with six tiaras and you dress them up with sticky foam and jewel pieces.  Kasen had an absolute blast decorating them . . . kept her busy for quite some time! :)

Here she is modeling a few of her masterpieces a few weeks ago, just beautiful.  Thanks again Brian & Gayle – HUGE hit! :D

As for today, we have two little sickies in the house. :(  Poor Holden has it worse than Kasen right now.  I spent most of the day wearing him in his carrier.  Sad little thing kept putting his head on my chest and just whimpering.  Man, I hope they both feel better tomorrow – it’s hard to see them sick and very difficult finding things for them to do in the house all day.  I’m pretty sure Holden wanted to go somewhere because he kept saying “Bye Bye. Bye Bye.” LOL  Maybe we’ll just go for a drive tomorrow just to get out of the house – it wasn’t in the cards today because Holden was sleeping so much and I was too worried about him with his high fever.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for both of them.

Holden’s Best Friend

September 6, 2010

His best friend, his bunny.  He cannot go to sleep without it, it calms him down within a millisecond if he’s upset, he has just about chewed its paws off, they’re almost black, and  it stinks . . . . really stinks, he loves to hold the paws up to my nose so I can say “Pewww-eeeeee” – cracks him up every.single.time. If you take it from him, he grabs it, and lets out a horrible growl to let you know how irritated he is with you for taking his precious friend. If he sees it anywhere, he calls for it, “Buhhh-eeeeee, Buhhh-eeeeeeeee” – I think he’s close to actually saying “Bunny.” He would love to carry it around with him all day.  If he does set it down so he can play with something else and then happens upon it during the day, he immediately grabs it and the biggest smile comes across his face, as if to say, “Oh friend, where HAVE you been?” :) LOL

As for me, I’m terrified we’ll lose it, scared he won’t take to the new one I ordered because it doesn’t have his stink  . . . . . uhhhh, smell, on it, wondering if he’ll be carrying it with him to his first day of kindergarten, or better yet, across the stage at his high school graduation.  Oh yeah, peer pressure should get to him by then. :)  Even so, I’m armed with pictures of said bunny and I will NOT let him forget the importance “Bunny” has had in his life. :D Should make for some cute pictures to show at his rehearsal dinner. ;)

Here’s Holden and his Best Friend, Bunny . . . .

Holden vs. Sidewalk Chalk

September 4, 2010

It was a BEEEEE-YOUUUUUUU-TI-FUL day today!  The first day that I haven’t wanted to pass out from heat stroke every time I walked out the front door.   Thank goodness for air conditioners.  Holden asks to go outside all day long every day, as well as Kasen, but at least she understands that it’s too hot, he doesn’t.  Well, they were scrambling to find their shoes when I said that we could go outside and play.  Holden grabs his shoes and says, “Shoooooes, Owww-side” – too cute.  Normally we have them wear shoes because their feet would burn on the concrete, but today, today we didn’t need no stinkin’ shoes, it was cooler on the concrete – yahoooooo!!!!  ;) We started out with a snack, played with insects, then we moved on to playing ball.  We had some swing time, slid down the slide a LOT, played in the fort, rode on the glider, had tickle fights on the grass, each had a ride on the tricycle, we rode the plasma car (Kasen pushed Holden and I, then I pushed her), we played with the water table and then it was time for sidewalk chalk.  It was Holden’s first time with the chalk and I could not stop laughing.  I took tons of pictures and I had to share them before going to bed tonight because they’re just too cute. :)

Kasen and Holden started out drawing together on the concrete, but then Holden moved on to writing on the post. LOL

collage09-03-10a1Holden then decided to taste the sidewalk chalk!  The face he made after he took a bite was priceless.  I was SURE he wouldn’t do it again after THAT face. ;)

However . . . . he did . . . . he tried the red next . . . .

collage09-03-10c . . . then the pink . . . .

collage09-03-10d. . . . then the purple . . .

Kasen was mortified and tried to get all the chalk out immediately.  By the way, I had already wiped his mouth clean a few times before those last pictures were even taken. LOL

And really, there’s nothing cuter than a chalk bum! :D

Our day did NOT start out well, but the day ended fantastically – the kids and I both were so excited to play outside.  We headed for the backyard before 3:00 p.m., and after playtime, and the kids taking a walk with Mae Mae and Papa, they didn’t come inside until 6:30 p.m.  They were wiped out when they went to sleep.  Love that. :D  The cooler weather was exactly what we were needing.  I’m hoping for lots more of those days – wonderful, wonderful memories were made. :)

See ya’ later!!
