All Girls & A Struggle

June 11, 2009

Today was a day of ALL girls, and even with all that estrogen in my house, everything was relatively calm. :)   It was supposed to be a swim party day, but due to the crazy thunderstorms, it ended up being an inside-the-house-playing-with-toys day.  And it was FUN!!!!  The Moms got to talk quite a bit, and the kids just played and played.  Kasen did really well sharing all of her toys . . . . well, at least what I saw. LOL  Of course, that could have been a whole different story when I was in a different room!!  Let’s just hope that she behaved herself when I didn’t have a watchful eye on her. ;)

After several hours, I decided to see if I could take some shots of the girls in my studio.  I have really been struggling with this aspect of my life.  Since our new baby boy is almost here – due in less than TWO weeks – YIKES! – we have run out of room.  The guest bedroom/play room is now our little boy’s room.  Everything in that room had to go somewhere and the only logical place is my in-home photography studio.  It is one of the biggest rooms since it’s our front living room.  So, what that means is that my studio will be coming down. :(   That room will now be our guest bedroom/play room.  We’ll be putting the studio equipment away somewhere.  Brad tells me that I can pull it out whenever I want, but if you’re a Mom of a baby/toddler/young child, you all know what that means.  It just won’t happen.  It IS a lot of stuff.  In my last ditch effort to utilize my studio equipment, I took shots of the girls today.  I didn’t get shots of all of them, but there’s still time, before the equipment is lost in some dark hole somewhere.  I can’t even tell you how much I’ll miss having that easily accessible.  Maybe someday we’ll have enough room to take full advantage of  it once again.  I sure hope so, it’s definitely my passion.  It’s nice to have a hobby/business that totally makes you happy.  *sigh*   someday . . . someday . . .

Well, just look at these two cuties and then you’ll see why photography warms my heart.

Here’s adorable Helen – we had a lot of fun in the studio, just the two of us.  I don’t get to spend a lot of time with Helen because she plays by herself so well and she seems SO quiet . . to me.  Well, it was great to talk and laugh with her, and she took direction incredibly well.  She was cracking up, but I happened to catch this tender moment and I have to say it’s my very favorite of the bunch. :)

Next is  Sofia – what a sweetie.  Now I REALLY had to work for smiles from her at the beginning, but the more I took, the more she relaxed and had a great time.  Kasen was even trying to make her smile.  She was making goofy/silly faces behind my head to get Sofia to crack a smile.  Sofia gave me the most serious face and said, “She is not making me happy.” LOL  Sofia’s Mom took Kasen off to play and just let me take pics of Sofia with no one around.  That’s when Sofia really came alive.  She told me “You’re taking a lot of great pictures.” LOL  I hope so Sofia, I hope so.  Oh yeah, I tried to get her to put a different outfit on, or a different hat, and it was a definite “No.”  Yep, she definitely knows what she wants. ;)

See ya’ later!!

P.S.  I almost forgot.  We got a call yesterday and “K” is 1 centimeter dilated.  However; the doctor doesn’t think she will deliver really soon . . .whatever that means.  She’s due in less than two weeks, that’s REALLY soon to me. LOL  Sooo, that’s all I know for now, still waiting and waiting and waiting.  I’ll let you know if any more news comes our way. :)

I’ve been gone a while because we’ve been so busy working on the house, getting ready to travel, decorating the baby’s room, and spending a lot of time with Kasen before the new baby arrives and she actually has to share the spot light! ;)

No news yet about the baby’s arrival.  There is a doctor’s appointment today, so maybe we’ll know something by tomorrow.  If we’re lucky, we’ll know something this afternoon.  Whatever the case may be, I’ll let you know!!

No post is complete without a picture, so here’s one of Kasen and her new buddy, Scott.  He is the son of a VERY dear friend of mine – she actually introduced me to Brad, so I’m forever indebted to her. ;)

See ya’ later!!

I just LOVE this contest, it’s been so much fun getting to participate and be inspired by so many other photographers.  This week’s theme for kids is “Happy Birthday” ~ Must have a child in it and clearly be a birthday celebration of some sort!  I picked a pic of Kasen and my MIL bringing out my husband’s birthday cake.  Kasen was SO excited to help, and she was thrilled that I let her pick out whatever she wanted to wear to her Daddy’s birthday celebration.  She went all out with a beautiful dress and patent leather shoes. :)   I thought this picture called for a vintage look.  Don’t forget to check out all the other great birthday celebrations at I Heart Faces

There is as new category this week – Pets Category – “Anything Goes” theme (even though we call this special category “Pets”, we really don’t care if the animal is an actual pet or not.)  Since anything goes, this is a cute little turtle that I took a picture of at the Dallas Aquarium.  He just kept swimming by and looking directly at me, so I kept snapping pics.  He seemed totally intrigued by my camera and I was totally intrigued by him. ;)

P.S.  We had another adoption home study yesterday morning and everything went well.  And on that front, no more baby news yet – he’s staying put for now. :)

See ya’ later!!

It’s time again for the weekly photo contest – this week’s theme is “silhouettes” -  I’ve been dragging my feet on entering because I have so much to do to get ready for the baby.  We received a call this morning and “K”  informed us that little guy may be arriving earlier than expected!! WOW!!  I’m guessing it’s time to get all of our suitcases packed for the long drive ahead!! :)

Here’s my entry – I took this for a senior picture.  Her church is very important to her, so we wanted to incorporate that into the photos.  I really do love how it turned out – she was twirling and holding her hands in the air.  Don’t forget to check out all the other incredible entries at I Heart Faces

We had a GREAT Memorial Day!!  Just fun in the sun, swimming, eating and relaxing.  Well, I take that back, I was relaxing! ;)   Brad painted baby boy’s closet, and then he and his  Dad installed the new Elfa shelves, baskets and drawers.  It looks fantastic!!  I can hardly wait to fill it with baby boy clothes, diapers, wipes, toys and blankets.  Soooo, guess what I’ll be doing this week??

I did take some pictures today, but these are not them! :)   These were actually taken yesterday – we call it “The Day of the Mosquitos!”  Poor Kasen was bitten about six times and you should see the HUGE welts they left behind. :(   I feel so sorry for her, she woke up this morning itching all over again and cursing those stinkin’ mean bugs!!  She asked if it was okay if  she said she hated bugs.  LOL  We tell her not to say the word “hate” but I was actually tempted to let her use it for this because I’m so mad at them myself.  We are keeping lots of good medicine on the bites, but just as soon as it wears off, she certainly lets us know.

Here’s Kasen yesterday – I used different effects on these – I love the colors.  And yes, I did get some laughing, smiling shots, but I just thought these were really interesting! :)

My Sweetie

May 20, 2009

Yep, just one more pic today – I know I’ve been short on words lately, but there is just SO much going on.  Brad and I finally made some decisions about the baby’s room, so that’s at least one or two things marked off my list.  Now to get to the one thousand and fifty eight things left to do.  Ugh.  Little guy’s birth mom is due FIVE weeks from today.  YIKES!! :)

Here’s our sweetie pie – it’s great to look at this cute little face on here, because she has really been testing her limits lately.  *insert rolling eyes here*  I guess she’s trying to stake her territory before little dude arrives. ;)

This is a little different for me, but I thought it called for the vintage look. :)   I’m glad I captured this too, because we get this look a LOT!

See ya’ later!!

It’s time again for the weekly photo contest.  The theme this week is “Blurb Book” – enter your best face picture.  If your pic is chosen, it will be in the I Heart Faces Blurb Book – pretty cool.  Welllll, I have LOTS of face pictures that I adore, but after long deliberation, I decided to enter this one of my friend’s beautiful little girl, Sofia.  I love her eyes, the way she’s holding her crazy hat, and her cuter than cute expression.  It really was super hard to choose because my friends have the most adorable and photogenic children.  I didn’t use a pic of my own daughter because I have THE most difficult time just getting her to look at the camera.  I think it’s time to hire someone else to take her pics. ;)

First Time Fishing

May 12, 2009

Okay, I’ve finally edited some pictures that I took while we were out of town a few weekends ago.  The sweet birth mom and her gracious family set up a wonderful Saturday for us.  It was a day filled with fishing, riding bikes, eating yummy hot dogs and chicken sandwiches, and playing on the playground equipment.  Then, they topped it off with a hilarious water balloon fight. :)   What a fantastic day!   This was Kasen’s first time fishing and she LOVED it. :)   They even had a Barbie fishing rod for her to use, which makes me think we need some of that cool fishing gear in our arsenal of weekend tools.  As you will see from the pics, Brad caught a fish, Kasen held a fish or two, and for some reason, liked to blow on the fish before she would throw him back in the water. ???  However; most of all, Kasen LOVED the worms.  Go figure! LOL

Yep, she’s a tomboy!!  Every time somebody needed a worm to bait their hook, all they had to do was say, “Kasen, I need a worm,” and she would go running.  LOL  That was her favorite part.  Too funny.  :)

See ya’ later!!

You know, this day rolls around so fast every year.  It did when I didn’t have any children, then it did after we lost our firstborn, Halle, and it still rolls around fast now that we have precious Kasen in our lives, and hopefully, a little boy soon too.  Only time will tell.

As much as my heart filled with joy this evening over my child that just.could.not.wait to give me my Mother’s Day gift, my heart is still heavy for what we have gone through, and what others are going through as well.  I remember how much it hurt my heart to not stand up in church and be acknowledged as a Mother . . . . . before I was one, and then not feeling comfortable enough to stand up and claim my title after we lost Halle – I mean, there was no child you could see  . . . . . but she was there . . . . she IS there . . . . always . . . . in our hearts, forever and ever.  Yes, I do feel happiness on Mother’s Day.  I love my Mother immensely, and thank her for everything, not just on Mother’s Day, but all year round.  I love Kasen with all my being, she is our light after the storm.  I love my Mother-in-Law, who brings happiness to me on a daily basis.  Not only am I amazed by all these people, I’m amazed by all my wonderful friends who are the most loving, caring, funny, smart Mommies and I learn from them all the time.

I will wake up to the sound of Kasen’s sweet voice  in the morning, and I already know that the biggest smile will cross my face, because I realize what it means to have her in our life, how much she has taught me, and how much my life has been overflowing since she entered my heart.  And honestly, I will also grieve, for the loss of Halle . . . I have no idea what it’s like to hear her voice, I have no idea what kind of card she would have picked out for me, or how her snuggles feel in the morning, and I will grieve for all the mothers who lost their children way too soon.

I wrote this poem back in May of 2004 – obviously before Kasen entered our lives.  I just wanted to share what I wrote because sometimes you see people and you have no idea what they are going through – maybe an extra hug or smile tomorrow might be just what someone needs.

a-different-mothers-daySee ya’ later!!

P.S.  I’m quite behind on sneek peaks, client proofing and e-mails.  And I’m still having trouble getting things off of my computer so I can work.   So, if you’re waiting to hear from me, you will, I promise – I’m getting there . . . . . slowly but surely. ;)

I Heart Faces Contest

May 5, 2009

This week’s photo contest for the Kids Category is “Hats” ~ All photos that are entered this week should include a face and a hat.  I took this photo at this little guy’s one year birthday party.  He was just so precious looking at me with that sweet grin.  And I adore that hat!! :)

Don’t forget to check out all the other awesome entries here ~ I Heart Faces

This week’s photo contest for the Adults  Category is “Hats” ~ All photos that are entered this week should include a face and a hat.  I took this photo at my brother-in-law’s wedding.  This is my mother-in-law all decked out in her fancy hat.  All of the guests were asked to wear hats and it was quite a spectacular wedding.  In this picture, my mother-in-law is waiting for her soon to be daughter-in-law to walk down the aisle.  I love the way she is holding her hands in anticipation of the event.  I’m so glad that we all had this special day together, since it was the last time I saw my brother-in-law.  He was tragically killed in a plane crash just twelve weeks after his wedding. :(

I will update more after we catch our breath.  The trip went wonderfully and we are just settling back into our routines and getting prepared . . . . you know, before the baby arrives!! :)
